Adobe Launches AI Assistant for Photoshop Beta on Web and Mobile

Adobe revealed on Tuesday that its AI assistant for Photoshop is now entering beta testing for web and mobile app users. The company is also introducing additional AI-driven image editing features to Firefly, its media generation and editing platform. This creative software firm initially unveiled the AI assistant for Photoshop at its MAX event last October. The newly released feature assists users in removing objects or people from photos, altering colors, or adjusting lighting through simple prompts. Additionally, users can employ natural language commands to direct the AI assistant to apply a soft glow, crop to a specific format, enhance shadows, or change the background to refresh an image's appearance. Adobe stated that paid Photoshop subscribers will have unlimited access to AI assistant generations until April 9, while free users will begin with 20 generations.

Furthermore, Adobe is launching a public beta for a new feature called AI markup, which allows individuals to draw markers on the screen and use the AI assistant to modify those elements. For example, you can sketch a flower or highlight an object for removal to alter the background.

In addition, Adobe is enhancing its Firefly media creation tool with new image editing capabilities. Firefly will now include Generative Fill, a feature previously available in Photoshop for several years, enabling users to replace or add objects and adjust backgrounds accordingly. Firefly is also acquiring a generative remove tool for deleting objects, generative expand for AI-powered image enlargement, and generative upscale features. Moreover, the company is introducing a one-click tool to eliminate backgrounds from images.

In February, Adobe announced it would offer unlimited generations for Firefly subscribers to promote greater engagement. The platform has progressively integrated more than 25 third-party video and image generation models, such as Google’s Nano Banana 2, OpenAI’s Image Generation, Runway’s Gen-4.5, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux.2 Pro.
