Adobe Launches Firefly AI Assistant to Automate Creative Tasks Across Apps

Last October, Adobe gave a preview of a new assistant, then known as “Project Moonlight,” designed to perform tasks by connecting various Adobe applications such as Acrobat, Photoshop, and Express. That product is now officially launching as the Firefly AI Assistant. The Firefly AI Assistant will enter a public beta phase in the coming weeks. Adobe has not clarified whether the AI assistant will have a separate pricing structure from the existing credit-based subscription tiers for Firefly.
Similar to other creative tools, the Firefly AI Assistant allows users to describe what they want to create, and it will manage the process. According to Adobe, the assistant can operate across a range of apps including Firefly, Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Express, Illustrator, and others to complete tasks on the user's behalf.

Users can direct the AI assistant’s outputs using text prompts, buttons, and sliders. The assistant can recommend actions, coordinate between different actions and applications, and carry out workflows, while still allowing users to intervene at any point. The agent will also display controls tailored to the specific project. For example, when editing a product photo set in a forest, the assistant might provide a simple slider to adjust the density of trees and foliage. Adobe notes that the assistant will learn user preferences over time and make suggestions accordingly.
Adobe is also introducing “skills” for the assistant, which are multi-step processes. One example is the “social media assets” skill, which can help adapt images for various platforms by cropping or expanding them, optimizing file sizes, and organizing the outputs.
Adobe has been steadily developing AI-powered assistants for Photoshop, Express, and Acrobat. The company announced on Wednesday that it is exploring ways to improve how these assistants integrate with third-party large language models. Competitors like Canva and Figma are also working on agentic workflows, but Adobe emphasizes that its strength lies in unifying its established and widely-used tools.
“We have the opportunity with the Firefly AI assistant and with agentic experiences to remove some of the friction in learning this large catalog of tools we have and bring all of that value to our customers at their fingertips,” Adobe stated.
Adobe is adding new features to the Firefly tool as well. The AI video editor will now include options to reduce speech noise, adjust reverb and music, a color adjustment tool, and integration with Adobe’s stock library. The company is also incorporating the Kling 3.0 and Kling 3.0 Omni models into Firefly’s collection of third-party AI models.
