Profound, a company that develops marketing technology designed to help brands show up in AI-generated search results, announced on Tuesday that it has closed a $180 million Series D round at a $1.8 billion valuation. This comes just under seven months after the company secured a $96 million Series C.
The latest funding round was co-led by Sequoia and Kleiner Perkins, with participation from existing backers such as Lightspeed Venture Partners, Khosla Ventures, and South Park Commons.
Founded two years ago, Profound initially launched as an analytics platform before broadening its offerings to assist companies with researching and building out marketing strategies. The startup's core focus is helping businesses grasp how AI influences the way consumers find their brands. It belongs to a growing category of startups operating in the GEO/AEO space—generative engine optimization and answer engine optimization—where companies work to get their products featured in the AI systems that customers increasingly rely on for search.
According to the company, its revenue has tripled over the last six months, and it now serves more than 1,000 enterprise customers, a list that includes Comcast, The Estée Lauder Companies, and Walmart.
