News Corp Partners With Symbolic.ai to Deploy AI Across Major News Outlets

Newsrooms have been exploring artificial intelligence for a number of years, yet these initiatives have largely remained at the experimental stage. A lesser-known startup named Symbolic.ai aims to shift that dynamic, having recently secured a significant agreement with Rupert Murdoch’s media conglomerate, News Corp.

News Corp, whose key holdings include MarketWatch, the New York Post, and The Wall Street Journal, plans to implement Symbolic’s AI platform within its financial news service, Dow Jones Newswires. Founded by former eBay CEO Devin Wenig and Ars Technica co-founder Jon Stokes, Symbolic.ai states that its platform can “assist in the production of quality journalism and content,” reporting that the tool has enabled “productivity gains of as much as 90% for complex research tasks.”

The platform is built to enhance editorial efficiency, offering support in areas such as newsletter creation, audio transcription, fact-checking, “headline optimization,” SEO recommendations, and more.

Overall, News Corp has demonstrated a proactive approach to adopting AI across its media operations. In 2024, the company entered into a multi-year partnership with OpenAI, licensing its content to the AI firm. Last November, the conglomerate indicated it was exploring opportunities to extend similar licensing agreements to other AI companies.
