OpenAI, currently valued at $500 billion, is actively seeking an additional $100 billion in investment. This new funding could potentially propel the company's valuation to an enormous $830 billion.
Recent reports indicate that Amazon may provide at least $50 billion of this substantial investment. While specific details of the potential agreement remain limited, it has been noted that Amazon's CEO, Andy Jassy, is personally leading negotiations with OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman.
In its efforts to secure more capital, OpenAI has also reportedly engaged in discussions with sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East. Additionally, the startup has held talks with other major technology players, including Nvidia, Microsoft, and SoftBank. The funding arrangement is anticipated to be finalized by the end of the first quarter.
A partnership between Amazon and OpenAI would be especially notable given Amazon's existing close relationship with Anthropic, a direct competitor to OpenAI. Amazon Web Services (AWS) serves as the primary cloud and training platform for Anthropic, and Amazon has invested a minimum of $8 billion into the company.
Furthermore, Amazon recently inaugurated an $11 billion data center campus in Indiana, which is specifically designed to operate exclusively with Anthropic's models.
