AMD Unveils Ryzen AI 400 Series, Pushing "AI for Everyone" with Next-Gen PC Chips

AMD Chair and CEO Lisa Su began her CES 2026 keynote by outlining a vision for computing's potential: making AI accessible to all. In pursuit of this goal, AMD introduced a new lineup of AI processors, reflecting the company's belief that AI-powered personal computers represent the future. At the annual CES event on Monday, the semiconductor leader unveiled the AMD Ryzen AI 400 Series processor, the newest iteration of its AI-enhanced PC chips.

According to AMD, this latest Ryzen series delivers multitasking performance that is 1.3 times faster than competing products and accelerates content creation by 1.7 times. The chips are equipped with 12 CPU cores—individual processing units within the main processor—and 24 threads, which are independent instruction streams.

This launch marks an upgrade from the Ryzen AI 300 Series processor, which was announced in 2024. AMD first began producing the Ryzen processor series in 2017. During a recent press briefing, Rahul Tikoo, senior vice president and general manager of AMD’s client business, noted that AMD has now expanded to over 250 AI PC platforms. He added that this figure represents a doubling of growth over the past year.

“In the years ahead, AI is going to be a multi-layered fabric that gets woven into every level of computing at the personal layer,” Tikoo stated. “Our AI PCs and devices will transform how we work, how we play, how we create and how we connect with each other.”

Alongside the AI-focused chips, AMD also announced the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D, the latest version of its processor designed specifically for gaming. “No matter who you are and how you use technology on a daily basis, AI is reshaping everyday computing,” Tikoo emphasized. “You have thousands of interactions with your PC every day. AI is able to understand, learn context, bring automation, provide deep reasoning and personal customization to every individual.”

PCs featuring either the Ryzen AI 300 Series processor or the AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor will become available in the first quarter of 2026. Additionally, the company introduced the newest version of its Redstone ray tracing technology, which simulates the physical behavior of light to enable enhanced video game graphics without compromising performance or speed.
