Anthropic Launches Political Action Committee to Influence AI Policy and Regulation

Anthropic has officially established a new political action committee, signaling that the AI company is joining its industry counterparts in dedicating substantial effort to shape policy and regulatory discussions. This committee, named AnthroPAC, intends to support candidates from both major parties in the upcoming midterm elections, directing contributions toward established lawmakers in Washington as well as emerging political figures.

Funding for the PAC will come from voluntary donations by employees, with individual contributions limited to $5,000, according to a recent report. The formal statement of organization submitted to the Federal Election Commission bears the signature of Allison Rossi, who serves as Anthropic’s treasurer.
Across the AI sector, firms that are simultaneously collaborators and rivals in a fast-evolving and sometimes unstable field are increasingly advocating for their favored policies at both state and national levels. Recent disclosures indicate that AI companies have already directed an impressive $185 million toward midterm election contests. Furthermore, earlier reports highlighted a new Super PAC called Public First, which is said to have received a minimum of $20 million from Anthropic and has funded advertising campaigns promoting a specific regulatory framework.

This expansion in political engagement coincides with Anthropic’s ongoing involvement in a contentious legal dispute with the Department of Defense. The conflict originated earlier this year concerning the government’s application of Anthropic’s AI models and the ongoing debate over what standards, if any, should govern their use.
