Anthropic Reveals How AI Is Reshaping Its Workforce and Redefining the Future of Work

Anthropic has seen substantial shifts in both who works there and what kind of work gets done over the past year, according to a report the AI company released on Friday. The company makes the case that its internal workplace patterns may signal "how AI will shift work organization, hiring, and labor demand across the economy"—particularly because Anthropic "has thoroughly molded its workflows around AI." Yet even for organizations that never adopt AI as deeply or in precisely the same manner as Anthropic, the report provides a fascinating window into how the company runs today.

A striking finding: Anthropic is hiring fewer junior people. The share of junior-level employees in technical departments has dropped from 21% to 14% since early 2025, while the proportion of junior technical hires has fallen even more steeply, from 27% to 9%. Technical teams also now make up a smaller portion of the overall workforce, declining from 61% to 56%—a shift the company credits to the "natural expansion of business functions as the company scales," along with "coding tools increasingly allowing non-technical employees to make software themselves."

One employee reportedly characterized an "eternal pressure at Anthropic to move as fast as possible and use Claude for everything." In an April 2026 survey, 27% of employees said Claude had made them more productive, and 20% said their job had shifted "from actually doing work to managing Claudes." One engineer apparently likened the experience to babysitting: "When you are babysitting, every child brings to you concerns with an equal demand for your attention and the various [Claudes] also do that."

The report actually suggests that "human attention and judgement" are turning into a "bottleneck" for productivity, since Claude generates a "deluge" of text that must be read and organized. Not surprisingly, the report contends that AI adoption has boosted the company's productivity, evidenced by "more code per person, closing more sales per rep, and processing more contracts." Anthropic concedes that "more code does not necessarily mean better code or business impact," but it also hasn't uncovered any signs that code quality is slipping.

Based on calendar data, meeting time per employee is up 20% from a year ago, and up 16% for technical contributors. The company ties this to the importance of "human trust and accountability," with employees repeatedly calling "face-to-face coordination indispensable."
