Anthropic's Claude AI Service Suffers Major Outage, Disrupting Thousands of Users

On Monday morning, Anthropic faced extensive service disruptions, with thousands of users encountering difficulties when trying to access Claude. The outage appears to have impacted both Claude.ai and Claude Code, although the company clarified that the Claude API remains operational.

Most users reported encountering errors specifically during login attempts, as illustrated in the screenshot below.

According to the company’s status page, “The issues we are seeing are related to Claude.ai and with the login/logout paths.” Anthropic has not yet provided details on the root cause of the outage, but stated that it has identified the problem and is actively working on a resolution.

This disruption comes amid a significant surge in user interest toward Claude. The chatbot recently climbed to the top of the App Store charts over the weekend, surpassing its main competitor, ChatGPT, after spending an extended period outside the top 20 rankings.

The increased attention follows recent developments involving the company’s negotiations with the Pentagon. Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump directed federal agencies to discontinue use of Anthropic products. This decision stemmed from a disagreement over safeguards intended to prevent the Department of Defense from employing Anthropic’s AI models for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons.

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth indicated that the company would be designated as a supply-chain threat, though Anthropic has stated it has not yet received any formal notifications to that effect.
