"Saturday Night Live" lampooned the AI industry's recent apocalyptic warnings during its latest episode, with cast member Jane Wickline portraying Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. Weekend Update anchor Michael Che, who appeared somewhat unsure about pronouncing Amodei's surname, introduced the bit by noting the CEO had "stumbled through a press tour" in which he seemed to endorse a former employee's warning that artificial intelligence could spell the end of humanity.

Wickline's Amodei wore a striking wig and gave hesitant responses that sometimes turned into full Gollum-like dialogues with their darker self, at one point admitting, "AI is the devil and I its maker."

In character, Wickline's Amodei reassured viewers that AI leaders "are all on the same page here: We do not condone what we are doing."

"AI is not a weapon, it's a tool: A tool for building weapons," she stated. "And I urge you to urge me to stop."

Regarding potential upsides of the technology, such as possibly curing cancer, the satirical Amodei remarked, "Put it this way: In 10 years, there's about a 10% chance that cancer won't be a problem for anyone."
