Apple's Siri Revamp Set to Debut as Advanced AI Chatbot at WWDC

Apple's much-anticipated overhaul of Siri might transform the smart assistant into a chatbot similar to ChatGPT, as detailed in a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Sources indicate this Siri chatbot, expected to be integrated into iOS 27, could become the centerpiece of Apple's WWDC presentation in June. Internally codenamed "Campos," the assistant will accept both voice and text inputs.

Senior vice president Craig Federighi had previously expressed a preference against making Siri a conventional chatbot, instead favoring AI features that are "integrated so it’s there within reach whenever you need it." However, the strategy seems to have shifted due to mounting competitive pressure from the success of other companies' AI chatbots.

Apple may also perceive a growing threat, particularly with OpenAI's plans to venture into hardware under the guidance of former Apple design chief Jony Ive. The company has openly trailed rivals in the AI arena, having postponed the launch of a "more personalized Siri" on several occasions.

Throughout last year, Apple actively sought an AI partner, evaluating technologies from competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic for a potential collaboration. The search concluded earlier this month when Apple and Google confirmed a partnership to integrate Google's Gemini AI into Apple's ecosystem.
