Apple Announces WWDC 2024 with Major AI Focus and Software Updates

Apple has announced that its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference will take place from June 8 to June 12, both online and at its Cupertino, California headquarters. The iPhone maker revealed that this year’s event—where it traditionally unveils new software and features for its devices—will highlight “AI advancements” alongside updates for iOS, macOS, tvOS, and WatchOS, as well as new software and developer tools.

The conference will be streamed live on the Apple Developer app, Apple’s website, and the Apple Developer YouTube channel. Viewers in China can watch the stream on the Apple Developer bilibili channel.

While last year’s WWDC centered on the “Liquid Glass” interface design with little mention of AI, this year’s gathering is expected to mark a significant shift. Apple has long been anticipated to introduce a more capable Siri with advanced AI features, and earlier this year it struck a deal with Google to integrate Gemini for AI functionality on its platform. This WWDC may finally showcase a redesigned Siri with improved personal context and on-screen awareness.

At last year’s conference, Apple introduced its Foundation Model framework, which includes AI models capable of operating offline. Further enhancements to this framework could be announced during this year’s event. The company has also integrated models like ChatGPT for coding into Xcode, and earlier this year it added agentic coding tools such as Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex to the development environment.
