OpenAI Launches $100 Monthly Plan for Power Users

OpenAI introduced a significant new pricing option on Thursday that many dedicated users have long anticipated: a $100 monthly subscription. Previously, the available plans included a free tier with advertisements, an $8 per month Go plan that also includes ads, a $20 per month Plus plan without ads, and a high-end $200 Pro plan, which is also ad-free. Notably, the company's current pricing page no longer displays the $200 monthly option.

The company states that the existing $20 Plus plan and the newly introduced $100 Pro tier are both intended to accommodate regular daily use of ChatGPT's coding assistant, Codex. Subscribers to the $100 Pro plan will receive five times the Codex capacity compared to the Plus plan. OpenAI is transparent about this new pricing level being a direct competitive move against Anthropic, which has offered a $100 monthly plan for its Claude assistant for some time.
According to OpenAI, "The new $100 Pro Tier is designed to give developers more practical coding capacity for the money, especially during high-intensity work sessions where limits matter most." It is important to note that the company is providing even higher Codex limits on the $100 plan as a promotional offer until May 31. Users who test the new tier and experience no rate warnings during this period should be aware that these elevated limits are temporary.

None of the subscription plans provide unlimited usage. The $200 plan, when available, offers limits that are 20 times higher than the Plus plan. OpenAI assures in its FAQ that this capacity is sufficient to support "your most demanding workflows continuously, even across parallel projects."
Both Pro plans share the same core set of features, with the primary distinction being the allocated rate limits. A company spokesperson also revealed that global weekly usage of Codex now exceeds 3 million people, marking a fivefold increase over the past three months, with month-over-month growth consistently above 70%.
