OpenAI is introducing a new capability called Intelligent UI, which will make ChatGPT significantly more visual. This interface arrives alongside a new GPT-6 model and brings a substantial amount of visual content into conversations. According to OpenAI, many of these visuals will be interactive—meaning users won't just see static, cartoon-style images. Instead, the chatbot will often present tappable buttons, task-specific calculators, interactive charts, editable graphs, and other hands-on elements.

The central aim, as stated by OpenAI, is to make "learning complex topics easier." While the company didn't explicitly say so, this could also make ChatGPT more approachable and accessible, potentially drawing in a broader audience.

During a call with journalists, OpenAI staff offered a quick demonstration of what Intelligent UI can do, showing how the updated chatbot can instantly generate various diagrams and visuals to clarify abstract subjects. Aarush Selvan, a product manager at OpenAI, noted that although "ChatGPT has predominantly been a text-based interface," the company recognizes that to help users "get things done—from everyday things like planning a recipe or a trip or even trying to learn something—the most helpful answers aren't just text."

Selvan illustrated this with an example: a college student curious about how an airplane wing works. He prompted ChatGPT to "explore how an airplane wing generates lift," and the chatbot rapidly produced several explanatory diagrams illustrating the dynamics of flight. Other examples shared by the company include visuals for recipes, a diagram explaining bicycle mechanics, a map for a multi-day hiking trip, a personal savings calculator, and more.

The feature will be customizable—much like other elements of ChatGPT's personality. If users prefer fewer visuals in their responses, they can reduce them. Intelligent UI launches globally with GPT-6 for Pro, Plus, Business, and Enterprise users, and becomes available for Free and Go users the following day.
