OpenAI announced on Friday that ChatGPT has reached 900 million weekly active users, bringing the AI chatbot close to the milestone of 1 billion users. The company also revealed it now has 50 million paying subscribers.
In a blog post, OpenAI noted that subscriber growth has accelerated significantly at the start of the year, with January and February projected to be the largest months for new subscriptions in its history. The company stated, “People use ChatGPT to learn, write, plan, and build. As usage scales, the product improves in ways people feel immediately: faster responses, higher reliability, stronger safety, and more consistent performance.”
This user count represents an increase of 100 million from the 800 million reported in October 2025. OpenAI shared these updated figures alongside the announcement of a $110 billion private funding round, one of the largest in history.
The funding includes a $50 billion investment from Amazon, along with $30 billion each from Nvidia and SoftBank, based on a pre-money valuation of $730 billion. The round remains open, and the company anticipates additional investors will participate.
