Microsoft Warns Copilot AI Is "For Entertainment Only" Amid Accuracy Concerns

It's not just AI skeptics who caution against blindly trusting the outputs of AI models—the companies behind these technologies often include similar warnings in their own terms of service. Microsoft, for instance, is actively promoting its Copilot tool to corporate clients, yet it has faced criticism on social media regarding the terms of use for Copilot, which seem to have been last revised on October 24, 2025. The company explicitly states: "Copilot is for entertainment purposes only. It can make mistakes, and it may not work as intended. Don’t rely on Copilot for important advice. Use Copilot at your own risk."
A Microsoft representative explained to PCMag that the company plans to revise what they referred to as "legacy language." The spokesperson added, "As the product has evolved, that language is no longer reflective of how Copilot is used today and will be altered with our next update."
Observers, such as Tom’s Hardware, have pointed out that Microsoft is not alone in including such disclaimers for AI services. Other leading AI firms, like OpenAI and xAI, also advise users not to treat their outputs as definitive truth. For example, xAI explicitly warns users not to rely on its output as "the truth," while OpenAI cautions that its models should not be seen as "a sole service of truth or factual information."
