DoorDash Launches Zesty: AI-Powered Social App for Instant Restaurant Discovery

DoorDash has introduced a new social application powered by artificial intelligence, aimed at helping users easily locate nearby dining options. Named Zesty, the app is currently accessible in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York. This move represents DoorDash’s expansion from food delivery into the social and discovery arena.

The app’s goal is to simplify the search for new restaurants by eliminating the need to sift through numerous reviews, examine various menus, or scroll through platforms like TikTok. After logging in with their DoorDash account, users can ask an AI chatbot for tailored suggestions based on their preferences. In a promotional Instagram post, the company demonstrated how prompts such as “A low-key dinner in Williamsburg that’s actually good for introverts” can yield specific recommendations. The app also provides suggested prompts like “Brunch spots good for groups” and “Romantic dinner with a vintage feel.”

According to a post on X by DoorDash co-founder Andy Fang, Zesty gathers information from sources including DoorDash, Google Maps, and TikTok to “curate the best suggestions from the web.”

Additionally, the app adapts to individual tastes by learning what users like and dislike. When users find a recommendation that appeals to them, they can save it and share it with friends. The platform allows users to post and browse photos and comments about restaurants they’ve visited, explore content from others, and follow people—mirroring the experience of a traditional social network.

In a statement, DoorDash explained, “We’re piloting an app called Zesty to make it easier to discover great nearby restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and more through personalized search and social sharing. We’re excited to learn from early testers as we keep shaping what local discovery can look like.”

Reports of the app’s launch first appeared in Bloomberg. While some may prefer using Google instead of downloading a separate app for restaurant discovery, and others might already rely on AI tools like ChatGPT or Gemini for recommendations, Zesty could appeal to those interested in a social network focused specifically on exploring new dining spots.

This launch is part of DoorDash’s broader strategy to diversify beyond delivery services. Earlier this year, the company introduced features enabling customers to book in-person dining reservations and earn rewards for in-store purchases.
