Elon Musk's xAI Loses Final Two Co-Founders Amid Major Company Rebuild

Earlier this month, it appeared that only two of the 11 co-founders at Elon Musk's AI venture, xAI, remained with the company. Now, reports indicate that those final two co-founders, Manuel Kroiss and Ross Nordeen, have also exited.
According to recent information, Kroiss informed colleagues of his departure from xAI, while Nordeen reportedly left the company last Friday.

Musk recently stated that xAI "was not built right [the] first time around," and is consequently "being rebuilt from the foundations up." This restructuring coincides with the company's recent acquisition by Musk's SpaceX, which now brings SpaceX, xAI, and X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) under a single corporate structure. This consolidation is happening as SpaceX is said to be preparing for a public offering.
Both Kroiss and Nordeen reported directly to Musk. Kroiss was responsible for leading the company's pretraining team, and Nordeen served as Musk's "right-hand operator." Nordeen reportedly joined xAI from Tesla and was involved in orchestrating significant workforce reductions at Twitter following Musk's acquisition of the company in 2022.
