Google Launches AI-Powered JEE Practice Tests in Gemini for Indian Students

Google is enhancing its AI-driven educational offerings by introducing comprehensive practice exams for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) within its Gemini platform. The JEE is India's national engineering entrance test, which millions of students take annually for admission into the country's premier technical institutions. According to the company, these full-length mock tests will feature questions developed from verified content provided by Indian educational organizations PhysicsWallah and Careers360.

This initiative follows the recent introduction of comparable test preparation features for the SAT. After completing a practice exam in Gemini, students will receive instant feedback that identifies their strong points and areas needing improvement. The chatbot can also clarify correct responses and assist in creating a personalized study schedule based on individual performance.

The addition of practice tests reflects a strategic effort to establish Gemini as a structured exam preparation resource, rather than merely a quick solution for answers. Beyond Gemini, Google announced that JEE Main preparation tools will also be accessible through AI Mode in Search, incorporating the Canvas feature. This tool enables students to develop study guides and interactive quizzes by uploading their class notes.

Google reports that Indian learners are utilizing Gemini to explore subjects from advanced physics to broader STEM topics, alongside using NotebookLM to transform study materials into quizzes, flashcards, and audio or video summaries. These AI tools are available in several Indian languages.

The company is also broadening its engagement with Indian educators, planning to collaborate with government bodies on a national program designed to help teachers and support staff apply AI for administrative tasks and lesson planning. Partnerships include working with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh University on a pilot project to develop an "AI-enabled state university."

This project seeks to establish a national framework for implementing AI across vocational and higher education, covering teaching, student support, and administrative functions. Furthermore, Google's philanthropic division, Google.org, is supporting Wadhwani AI with a grant of ₹850 million (approximately $10 million) to integrate AI into government-operated education platforms.

The initiative focuses on systems like national online learning portals and state education platforms, aiming to enhance their flexibility and lessen administrative workloads for educators. It covers education from pre-school through higher levels and includes features such as voice-based reading assistance in multiple Indian languages and AI-powered English learning coaches.

Google states that it has already engaged around 10 million learners and educators, with a goal to expand reach to 75 million students, 1.8 million educators, and one million early-career professionals by the end of 2027.
