On Wednesday, Google revealed the launch of a dedicated Gemini application for Mac, aligning with competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic, who have offered Mac applications for an extended period. In a blog post, Google detailed that users can now "bring up Gemini from anywhere on your Mac with a quick shortcut (Option + Space) to get help instantly, without ever switching tabs."
The company illustrated, "Whether you’re drafting a market report and need to verify a date or building a budget in a spreadsheet and need the right formula, you can get an answer and get right back to work."
The new application enables users to share any on-screen content with Gemini for immediate assistance, including local files. For instance, when viewing a detailed chart, one could ask, "What are the three biggest takeaways here," and obtain a concise summary.
Additionally, the app includes capabilities for generating images using Nano Banana and creating videos with Veo. This native macOS application is now accessible worldwide to all Gemini users on macOS version 15 and newer, available for download at gemini.google/mac.
