Google TV Unveils AI-Powered Visual Search and Sports Highlights with Gemini

On Tuesday, Google introduced three new features for Google TV powered by Gemini, bringing AI-driven visual responses, in-depth topic exploration, and narrated sports overviews. A standout addition is the visual response capability. For instance, asking for the current Warriors game score will display live scorecards and viewing information. Similarly, searching for recipes will yield results accompanied by relevant video tutorials.

Also coming to Google TV, as demonstrated at CES 2026, is the “deep dives” feature. This allows users to thoroughly explore complex subjects. When queried, Gemini provides narrated visual explanations on a wide range of topics, including health and wellness, economics, and technology. An example would be asking, “What are the effects of cold plunging?”

Users can access these deep dives by choosing “Dive deeper” from the response options or by going to the Gemini tab on the home screen and selecting “Learn.”

For sports enthusiasts, Gemini has debuted “sports briefs.” This feature is designed for fans who want to keep up with their favorite leagues without watching every moment live. Users can request timely narrated summaries of events from leagues like the NBA, NHL, and MLB, offering an easy way to catch up on highlights and key updates. This follows the introduction of “news briefs” a year prior for viewers staying informed on current headlines.

These features are now rolling out to users in the U.S. and Canada. Google has also announced plans to extend Gemini’s capabilities to Australia, New Zealand, and the UK this spring, with more countries to follow. Gemini initially launched on Google TV in September 2025, but it was a limited release for specific TCL televisions. Since then, it has expanded to more devices and received various updates, such as the ability to adjust settings using natural language commands—like fixing dim screens or audio imbalances—which is often quicker than navigating menus. Users can also search their Google Photos library by voice and apply AI styles and effects.
