Google Unveils Gemini Updates: Daily Brief, Redesigned Interface, New AI Video Model & Personal Agent

At its annual Google I/O event on Tuesday, Google unveiled a wave of new updates for the Gemini app, including a "Daily Brief" feature, a redesigned interface, access to a new AI video model called Gemini Omni, and a personal AI agent named Gemini Spark. These updates reflect Google’s strategy to transform Gemini into a comprehensive AI hub rather than just a standalone chatbot, positioning it to compete more effectively with apps like ChatGPT and Claude.
The Daily Brief feature is described by Google as a personalized morning digest, designed to be your first stop each day. It collects information from your inbox, calendar, and most important tasks, then organizes everything into a clear overview. Google emphasizes that Daily Brief doesn’t merely summarize this data—it also prioritizes tasks and suggests next steps, with the most critical items appearing first. This feature is rolling out today to Google AI subscribers in the United States.

The Gemini app already boasts significant reach: Google reports over 900 million monthly users, and it’s available in more than 230 countries and over 70 languages. However, the company clearly aims for further growth while retaining its existing user base. Google announced it has rebuilt the app from the ground up. Now, when users open the app, they’ll encounter a new design language called "Neural Expressive," which features fluid animations, vibrant colors, updated typography, and haptic feedback.

Gemini’s responses are no longer displayed as a wall of text, which is typical for most AI chatbots. Instead, key information is highlighted in bold at the top. Additional text, along with other elements like images and timelines, appears as users scroll down. As for Gemini Spark, Google describes it as a 24/7 personal AI agent that helps you navigate your digital life. Spark transforms Gemini from a mere assistant into an active partner that performs real tasks on your behalf. Since it’s a cloud-based agent, Spark continues working in the background even when you lock your phone. With Gemini Spark in the Gemini app, users can create custom workflows. Spark is currently in testing, and Google expects to make it available to Google AI Ultra subscribers next week.

The company’s new AI video model, Gemini Omni, combines Gemini with Google’s generative media models to produce outputs grounded in knowledge. For instance, you could give it a simple prompt like "claymation explainer of protein folding." According to Google, the model allows you to upload audio, images, and video to generate consistent, high-quality video content. By adding access to a new video-generation model like Gemini Omni, Google is intensifying competition among major AI platforms in the race to lead multimodal content generation. The model is rolling out to Google Flow and YouTube Shorts for Google AI subscribers, underscoring the company’s broader push into multimodal content creation and AI-powered video tools.
