IBM Announces Plan to Triple Entry-Level Hiring in 2026, Defying AI Job Replacement Trend

While many in the artificial intelligence sector predict that AI will take over entry-level roles, some companies are not reducing their recruitment for these positions. In fact, IBM is significantly increasing its commitment.

According to a report from Bloomberg, the hardware leader IBM intends to triple its entry-level hiring in the United States by 2026. This initiative was announced by Nickle LaMoreaux, IBM’s chief human resource officer, during Charter’s Leading With AI Summit on Tuesday.

"And yes, it’s for all these jobs that we’re being told AI can do," LaMoreaux stated. She clarified that these new roles will differ from the entry-level positions IBM traditionally offered. LaMoreaux explained that she personally revised the job descriptions to shift focus away from tasks AI can automate, such as coding, and toward more human-centric areas like customer engagement.

This approach is logical. Even if a large enterprise like IBM does not require the same volume of entry-level staff as before, nurturing less experienced workers helps equip them with the skills necessary for advanced roles in the future.

IBM has not disclosed the exact number of hires planned under this initiative. The coming year may prove crucial in revealing the true impact of AI on the job market. A 2025 MIT study estimated that approximately 11.7% of jobs could already be automated by AI.
