Meta launches AI-powered pendant to record conversations, building on Limitless acquisition

Meta has plans to test an AI-powered pendant within the next year, according to an internal memo. The device is expected to build on the technology developed by Limitless, an AI startup that Meta acquired in late 2025. Limitless had created a wearable pendant that could be clipped to clothing or worn as a necklace, allowing it to record conversations. At the time of the acquisition, Meta stated that the deal would help "accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables."

Previous attempts at AI wearables have struggled to gain traction with consumers. This may be due to privacy concerns, tone-deaf marketing, or simply a lack of practical usefulness. However, companies like OpenAI remain committed to the concept. The memo reportedly also outlines plans for Meta to expand its lineup of AI glasses and introduce a business subscription service called Wearables for Work. Through these upcoming devices, Meta appears to be aiming for a turnaround for its hardware-focused Reality Labs division, which lost $4 billion in the first quarter of this year.
