Meta Launches Stand-Alone Vibes App for AI-Generated Short-Form Videos

Introduced last September, Vibes enables users to produce and distribute short AI-generated videos while exploring a curated feed of similar content from others. Imagine platforms like TikTok or Instagram Reels, except every video encountered is created by artificial intelligence. Previously, this feed was only accessible within the Meta AI app. By releasing Vibes as a separate application, Meta is aligning it more closely as a rival to Sora, OpenAI’s AI video and social app that debuted soon after Vibes.
“Given the encouraging early adoption of Vibes inside Meta AI, we are experimenting with a standalone app to further build on that progress,” Meta explained in a statement. “We’ve observed users embracing the format to craft, find, and share AI-generated videos with their networks. This dedicated app offers a more concentrated and immersive space for that experience. We plan to develop the app further based on insights gathered from our community.”
While Meta does not disclose exact figures, the company reports that Vibes has seen positive performance, with Meta AI engagement growing consistently since its introduction—a trend interpreted as evidence supporting a standalone app. The technology leader also highlights that although users interact with content within Meta AI, a separate app provides a more tailored environment for both creating and engaging with videos.
With Vibes, individuals can generate a video from the beginning or modify an existing video from their feed. Prior to sharing, creators can incorporate new visuals, overlay music, and fine-tune stylistic elements. Finished videos can be posted directly to the Vibes feed, sent via direct message, or shared across Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels.
Meta notes that collaborative and sharing behaviors are increasing, with many Vibes videos being privately messaged to friends—a pattern similar to how people share Reels. Although Vibes has been free since its launch, Meta intends to introduce a freemium model for video creation, offering a subscription to access additional monthly video generation options. These trial subscriptions are scheduled to begin in the upcoming months.
