Meta's AI Glasses Get Noise-Canceling Audio and Spotify Visual Search

Meta introduced an update on Tuesday for its AI glasses, designed to help users hear conversations more clearly in loud settings. This enhancement will first launch on Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN smartglasses in the United States and Canada.
Additionally, the glasses are receiving another update that integrates with Spotify to play music related to what the wearer is viewing. For example, looking at an album cover could trigger a song by that artist, or viewing a Christmas tree with gifts might start holiday music. While this feature is somewhat playful, it highlights Meta's approach to linking visual input with app-based actions.
The conversation-focused feature appears more utilitarian. Originally unveiled at Meta's Connect conference this year, it employs the glasses' open-ear speakers to amplify the voice of the person you're speaking with. Users can fine-tune the amplification level by swiping the right temple of the glasses or through device settings, allowing customization for environments like restaurants, bars, clubs, or trains. Real-world performance will, of course, require testing.
This concept of using smart accessories to assist with hearing isn't unique to Meta. Apple's AirPods already include a Conversation Boost feature to help focus on dialogue, and the Pro models recently added a clinical-grade Hearing Aid function.
While the conversation feature is limited to the U.S. and Canada, the Spotify integration is available in English across more markets, including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the U.K., and the U.S.
The software update, version 21, will initially be available to participants in Meta's Early Access Program, which requires joining a waitlist and gaining approval, before a wider rollout.
