OpenAI VP Fired Amid False Sex Discrimination Allegations

Ryan Beiermeister, formerly OpenAI's vice president of product policy, was dismissed in January following an accusation of sex discrimination by a male colleague. "The allegation that I discriminated against anyone is absolutely false," Beiermeister stated.

Her termination reportedly occurred after she voiced criticism regarding a planned ChatGPT feature known as "adult mode," which would incorporate erotica into the chatbot's user experience. Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of Applications—a position responsible for the company's consumer-facing products—has indicated that this new feature is scheduled for release in the first quarter of this year.

According to the report, Beiermeister and other employees expressed concerns about the potential impact of the "adult" feature on certain users. OpenAI commented that Beiermeister, who was let go after a leave of absence, had "made valuable contributions during her time at OpenAI, and her departure was not related to any issue she raised while working at the company."

Beiermeister's LinkedIn profile notes her previous four-year tenure on Meta's product team and over seven years working for Palantir.
