Codex Goes Mobile: OpenAI Integrates Live Coding Tool Into ChatGPT App for Remote Workflow Management

Codex is making the leap to mobile. The coding tool, launched by OpenAI about a year ago, has now been integrated into the ChatGPT app, giving users the ability to monitor and manage their development workflows remotely. This new feature lets users view their Codex live environments on any device where it's running. The company announced the changes on Thursday, and the update—currently in preview—is now available to all plans on both iOS and Android. "This is more than the ability to remotely control a single task or dispatch new tasks to your computer," OpenAI said in a statement. "From your phone, you can work across all of your threads, review outputs, approve commands, change models, or start something new."
Last month, OpenAI also gave Codex the ability to run in the background on desktop environments, allowing the tool to autonomously handle a variety of tasks. Earlier this month, the company introduced a Chrome extension that enables the agent to work within live browser sessions. In February, Anthropic released a similar feature called Remote Control, which lets users remotely monitor Claude Code's work from afar. This flurry of feature releases from both OpenAI and Anthropic highlights the intense competition between the two companies to see whose agentic coding tool will become the most widely adopted. Over the past year, Anthropic's Claude Code has gained traction among businesses and tech professionals, though both tools continue to see widespread use.
