OpenAI and Infosys Partner to Integrate AI Tools for Software Development and Automation

OpenAI has entered into a partnership with Infosys to incorporate its AI technologies, such as the Codex coding assistant, into the Indian IT leader’s Topaz AI platform. According to Infosys, this collaboration will assist its clients in updating software development processes, automating workflows, and scaling AI system deployments, with an initial emphasis on software engineering, legacy system modernization, and DevOps.

India’s IT services sector is currently navigating significant challenges, including reduced client expenditure and the swift progress of generative AI. Infosys shares have declined more than 22% this year, influenced by a wider market downturn prompted by subdued forecasts, investor worries about AI automating conventional outsourcing tasks, and economic instability stemming from the U.S.-Iran conflict.

This agreement highlights a growing pattern of AI companies joining forces with international IT service providers to accelerate adoption within large corporations. OpenAI has previously allied with HCLTech, while Infosys has established a comparable arrangement with Anthropic.

Through this partnership, OpenAI secures a pathway into major enterprises by leveraging Infosys’ extensive global client network and delivery operations spanning over 60 countries. Both firms stated that the collaboration is designed to support businesses in transitioning from AI testing to full-scale implementation.

Infosys has been actively expanding its AI offerings. The company reported earlier this year that AI-related services contributed ₹25 billion (approximately $267 million) in revenue during the December quarter, accounting for about 5.5% of its total income.

This deal aligns with OpenAI’s wider strategy to increase its enterprise presence through programs like Codex Labs, introduced on Tuesday. That initiative involves engineers collaborating directly with clients to facilitate the deployment of OpenAI’s tools. Launch partners include Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, Infosys, PwC, and Tata Consultancy Services, as OpenAI works to establish a distribution network that can scale the adoption of Codex, which currently boasts over 4 million weekly active users. Financial terms of the Infosys agreement were not disclosed.
