OpenClaw Launches Free AI Agent App for iOS and Android, Bringing Automation to Your Phone

The automation crustacean is making its way to a mobile device near you. Specifically, OpenClaw—the free, open-source AI agent that captured the internet's attention earlier this year—has finally launched as an app on both iOS and Android. OpenClaw shared the news on X this Tuesday.
On both platforms, you can connect your phone to the OpenClaw Gateway, a routing layer that links your requests to AI agents and the tools and skills those agents use to complete tasks. The key takeaway is that you'll be able to run your OpenClaw agents directly from your pocket, and if you've programmed them correctly, they could prove quite helpful at getting things done.
OpenClaw users have put the agent to work on everything from coding to meal planning, though some have reported less-than-ideal results. The tool went viral earlier this year around the launch of MoltBook, a social media site supposedly populated entirely by agents. In February, OpenClaw's creator, Peter Steinberger, announced he had joined OpenAI.
The MoltBook spectacle was later revealed to have been partially orchestrated by humans impersonating agents, according to researchers—an effective piece of theater that also served as marketing for OpenClaw, despite whatever credibility it may have cost. Still, the stunt pointed toward an agentic future that has since continued to expand. Agents are now embedded across the AI landscape and are appearing in more places by the day, including on your phone.
