During the United States v. Elizabeth Holmes trial, more than a thousand emails, slides, texts, and documents were made public. Extend engineer Bo Lau used this trove of material to build a website that recreates what it might have felt like to run Theranos as its chief executive before the company's dramatic collapse. (Every day, I feel grateful that the American legal system opens up the discovery process to the public.)

Lau's creation is remarkably detailed, transporting users straight back to 2016—an era when iPhones still had home buttons and required a finger swipe to unlock. The MacBook Air in the simulation even runs OS X El Capitan. Visitors can click around the environment and browse the documents released through the court case on Holmes' iPhone and laptop screens. They can even operate the Theranos Edison machine, the company's doomed device that was supposed to extract vast amounts of health data from a single drop of blood. While the project appears to have been built mostly for amusement, it actually offers a fascinating way to explore the documents from one of the most notorious court cases in tech history—navigating this is far simpler than tracking down thousands of PDFs from court websites. There's another motive at play, though. Lau is promoting a watch party her company is hosting for Nathan Fielder's forthcoming documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, titled "You Can See Everything."

Naturally, she's also promoting the company itself. So what does Extend actually do? Apparently, it can "parse, extract, and split your hardest documents with unmatched accuracy." (I'm not entirely sure what that entails, but if it enables something like this Holmes desk simulator to exist, then I suppose I'm bullish on b2b SaaS.)
