Roblox Unveils 4D Creation Beta, Enabling Interactive Digital Worlds

In March of last year, Roblox introduced an open-source AI model designed to produce 3D objects directly on its platform, enabling users to rapidly craft digital items like furniture, vehicles, and accessories. According to the company, this tool, named Cube 3D, has already assisted users in generating more than 1.8 million 3D objects since its debut. This week, the platform launched the open beta for its highly anticipated 4D creation feature, which allows creators to build not just static 3D models, but fully functional and interactive objects. This feature has been available in early access since November.

Roblox emphasizes that 4D creation introduces a crucial new dimension: interactivity. With this technology, users can design items capable of movement and response to players within the game environment.

At the initial release, creators can experiment with two types of object templates, referred to as schemas. The first is the “Car-5” schema, used to construct a vehicle composed of five distinct parts: a main body and four wheels. Previously, cars existed as a single, immobile 3D object. The new system deconstructs objects into individual components and assigns specific behaviors to each, allowing them to operate independently within the virtual space. Consequently, the AI can now generate cars with spinning wheels, enhancing realism and interactivity.

The second template is called “Body-1,” which can generate any object formed from a single piece, such as a simple box or sculpture. The first experience showcasing 4D generation is a game titled *Wish Master*, where players can generate drivable cars, flyable planes, and even dragons.

Looking ahead, Roblox intends to enable creators to design their own schemas, granting them greater freedom to define object behaviors. The company also notes it is developing new technology capable of using a reference image to produce a detailed 3D model that matches the image’s style.

Roblox states it is exploring additional methods to assist people in creating games and experiences with AI, including a project internally called “real-time dreaming.” Last month, CEO David Baszucki explained that this initiative would allow creators to build new worlds using “keyboard navigation and sharing real-time text prompts.”

This open beta follows closely after Roblox’s recent implementation of mandatory facial verification for users to access chat features, a change enacted in response to lawsuits and investigations concerning child safety.
