Roblox Unveils Enhanced AI Assistant with New Agentic Features for Game Developers

Roblox is enhancing its Roblox Assistant, an AI tool designed for game development that responds to plain-language instructions, aiming to support creators across the entire development journey. The company notes that AI tools which generate solutions from a single prompt often miss capturing a creator's true vision. To address this, it is launching an improved "Planning Mode" that turns Assistant into a collaborative partner capable of analyzing a game's code and data model, posing clarifying questions, and converting prompts into editable action plans. Planning Mode assists developers in drafting a game plan, receiving feedback to polish details, finalizing the approach, and then executing that plan. Creators can adjust the plan and provide additional context to ensure their intentions are accurately represented before any modifications are implemented.

For instance, if a creator instructs Assistant to "create a park mini game with a fountain and foliage where characters have to collect coins," Assistant might inquire about the desired visual style for the park, presenting choices such as cartoony, realistic, or fantasy. Alternatively, it could ask how the park's assets, like a fountain and foliage, should be created, offering options like building from scratch, using models from the Creator Store, or a combination of both. Once a plan is established, Planning Mode will utilize Roblox's other AI tools during game creation. These include two new tools announced today: Mesh and Procedural Model Generation, both designed to accelerate development. Mesh Generation simplifies adding fully textured meshes, or 3D objects, directly into the game world. Roblox explains that developers often use placeholder assets early in development to gauge player interaction with the environment. With Mesh Generation, creators can rapidly produce 3D models instead of depending on low-quality placeholders.

As an example, creators can request Assistant to generate a campfire, then enhance it with lighting for realism, and finally set the scene at night. Roblox will also soon introduce "Procedural Models" to enable developers to create editable 3D models using code and Assistant. Since Assistant comprehends 3D space and physical relationships, creators can employ prompts to position and scale objects relative to others in the scene. Attributes like the number of shelves in a bookcase or the height of a staircase can be dynamically adjusted, producing editable building blocks that can be refined and reused in other projects. "Creating with Planning Mode and our Procedural Generation tools is a powerful new method for creators to turn their concepts into gameplay. Assistant works as a multi-step, collaborative development partner - accelerating the process of planning, building, and testing, so creators can get from idea to reality faster."

While Planning Mode carries out the plan, it will employ playtesting tools to review output logs, capture screenshots, simulate inputs like keyboard and mouse actions to evaluate design and gameplay, and identify bugs, providing feedback to Assistant for automatic fixes.

"With the new capabilities across planning, building, and testing, Assistant is better at using agentic loops to test different aspects of the game, surface suggested solutions, and then incorporate the results into future planning loops, creating a self-correcting system that becomes more accurate over time," Roblox stated in a blog post. Roblox also revealed it is developing features to allow multiple AI agents to collaborate in parallel, manage long, complex workflows in the cloud, and handle tasks such as coding, testing, and creating more lifelike game characters. Additionally, it aims to ensure creators can smoothly integrate third-party tools like Claude, Cursor, and Codex with Roblox Studio.
