Shield AI Joins Forces with India’s JSW Defence to Locally Manufacture Advanced V-BAT Drones

Shield AI, a leading name in defense technology, has teamed up with India’s JSW Defence to begin local production of its high-performance V-BAT drones. This collaboration marks a new chapter in Indo-US defense ties, strengthening bilateral partnerships and advancing defense tech manufacturing in India.

Investment Sparks Rapid Growth in Indian Drone Industry

This ambitious partnership isn’t just about assembling drones—it’s about building a comprehensive ecosystem around them. JSW Group is investing a substantial $90 million over two years, with the majority ($65 million) allocated for the first year alone. This funding will support the development of manufacturing facilities, workforce training, and a localized supply chain to make the production of V-BAT drones in India both sustainable and efficient.

V-BAT Drones: Breaking New Ground in Military Surveillance

The V-BAT drone isn’t just another drone in the military’s toolkit. Designed as a fixed-wing, Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft, it offers unmatched capabilities for surveillance and reconnaissance. Equipped to handle complex military environments, the V-BAT can remain airborne for up to 12 hours and requires only two operators to get it mission-ready. From unpacking to take-off, the entire setup takes under 20 minutes—a streamlined process that ensures fast deployment in critical situations.

Its unique ability to quickly shift from hover to forward flight allows for seamless adaptability, making it ideal for complex missions.

A Strategic Partnership with Global Impact

Brandon Tseng, President of Shield AI, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating:

“We’re excited to enhance the Indo-US strategic partnership through collaboration with JSW Group, strengthening our commitment to deploy cutting-edge UAS technology globally and harness India’s vast engineering and manufacturing talent.”

For both Shield AI and JSW, this partnership is a significant step toward harnessing India’s extensive engineering and manufacturing resources to support high-stakes defense technology production.

AI-Powered Drones and Their Performance in Challenging Environments

The V-BAT drones have already shown their potential in high-tech warfare scenarios. Deployed in Ukraine’s electronic warfare landscape, these drones have demonstrated impressive resilience and intelligence, handling complex terrains and dynamic mission requirements where traditional drones might falter.

This blend of AI-driven adaptability and operational flexibility is what makes the V-BAT a valuable asset for modern militaries. Its ducted fan design and VTOL functionality mean that even in rugged and remote areas, it can support diverse operations, from special forces missions to providing crucial front-line surveillance.

A New Era for Military Drone Manufacturing

Shield AI’s collaboration with JSW represents a larger trend in the drone industry: international partnerships aimed at making advanced defense technology more accessible and adaptable. As nations recognize the value of shared expertise, partnerships like these could reshape how drones are produced and deployed, impacting global military capabilities and strategy.
