Shipt Debuts ‘Ask Shipt’ AI Assistant to Build Custom Carts, Joining Instacart and Uber Eats in Delivery App AI Race

Shipt, the same-day delivery service owned by Target, has become the latest delivery app to jump into the AI shopping space. On Wednesday, the company unveiled its new “Ask Shipt” tool, designed to help customers shop more intuitively by turning simple prompts into personalized, ready-to-purchase carts.
With this rollout, Shipt joins a growing wave of delivery platforms embedding AI assistants directly into their apps. Earlier this morning, Instacart introduced its own AI-powered grocery assistant called Clementine, while Uber Eats and DoorDash have also rolled out comparable AI helpers over the past year.
According to Shipt, users can ask the assistant for a wide range of tasks, such as “Create a cart for my Saturday tailgate for 25 people and include some brunch items,” or “Build a cart for easy school lunches and after-school snacks.” The tool even allows shoppers to upload a photo of a dish they spotted online or at a restaurant, and the assistant will identify the ingredients and add them all to a cart. For those working within a budget, the assistant can generate ideas like a weeknight dinner for a family of five for under $35.
This launch comes on the heels of other AI-driven features recently added to Target.com, including photo-based search, summarized customer reviews, and other personalized shopping tools. Ask Shipt is now live in the Shipt app and on Shipt.com.
