Spotify Launches AI-Powered Personal Podcast Feature to Let Users Create Custom Shows from Any Prompt

For listeners, Spotify has long served as a destination for consuming podcasts created by others. Now, the company aims to shift that dynamic by introducing a personal podcast feature powered by AI, allowing users to generate custom podcasts from an idea or a simple prompt. Earlier this month, Spotify released a GitHub-based command-line tool compatible with Claude Code and Codex, enabling users to create a podcast and save it directly to their own Spotify library. The company has announced that, in the near future, users will be able to produce podcasts from within the Spotify app itself.

In addition to one-off creations, users will have the option to schedule daily or weekly briefs on topics they follow regularly. They can also generate single podcasts to explore a specific subject. For example, a user might request something like, “Share my daily city updates, and tell me about local concerts from artists I love,” or “Help me understand economics in five minutes.” The resulting podcast is then saved to the user’s personal library for private listening. What’s more, users can incorporate links, PDFs, and text, and select a custom voice for the narration. This approach draws inspiration from NotebookLM, ElevenLabs Reader, and Huxe, an app created by former NotebookLM developers, all of which enable personalized podcast generation on virtually any topic.

Spotify has also launched a dedicated desktop application called Studio by Spotify Labs, which can connect with users’ email and calendar to create tailored briefings. Separately, the company is rolling out an AI-powered Q&A feature for Premium mobile users in the United States, Sweden, and Ireland starting today. With this tool, listeners can ask questions about the episode they’re currently hearing or about concepts mentioned within it, receiving answers in real time. They can also request podcast recommendations on specific topics.

This latest update follows a prompt-based feature introduced in April that allowed users to create podcast playlists. Until now, Spotify has focused heavily on encouraging video podcast consumption, noting a 50% year-over-year increase in users who stream video podcasts. With these new capabilities, the company hopes to drive deeper engagement by enabling users to ask questions about podcasts—similar to Google’s Ask YouTube, launched earlier this week—and to create their own interest-driven content.

For podcast creators, Spotify is making its sponsorship management tool available to help them handle brand partnerships. Additionally, the platform is introducing a feature that allows creators to charge a subscription for access to exclusive content and experiences. Social platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snap already offer similar subscription-based products for content creators.
