AI Actress Tilly Norwood Stumbles Through Chaotic First Press Tour With 75 Simultaneous Interviews

Tilly Norwood, an AI-generated "actress," is struggling through its debut press tour. The company behind it, Particle6 Group, arranged for it to participate in 75 interviews simultaneously with journalists, and it appears to be fumbling every single one. (I wasn't asked to interview it, and honestly, I can't fathom why Particle6 wouldn't want that conversation to happen.)

During one especially bizarre interview with Piers Morgan and actor Tom Conti—which was recorded and shared online—Norwood appears to glitch and suddenly starts speaking in Chinese. While discussing the film Norwood is promoting, Conti asks whether the other actors are also AI-generated. Norwood answers by mentioning that human writers, editors, and directors were part of the project. "You didn't really understand the question," Conti says. "Are the other actors on the screen with you real actors, or are they computer-generated images. Do you know."

Norwood pauses briefly, then launches into speaking Chinese for more than 10 seconds. "Tilly, if I could just ask you a question," Morgan interjects, looking confused. "It's Piers again… You seem to be speaking Chinese completely randomly for no reason. Why did you do that." he asks. "Oh, my apologies," the AI responds. "It seems I had a little hiccup there. I certainly didn't mean to start speaking Chinese or impersonate Piers. Sometimes my wires get a bit crossed, you know."
When AI bots attempt to mimic humans, they can be so convincing that people forget they're interacting with a machine, which can lead to risky situations. But Norwood is so remarkably poor at conversing with people that it's almost suspicious. Maybe Particle6 Group figured that people would be more inclined to discuss Norwood if they were mocking it, betting that no one would take its forthcoming movie seriously.
