Todoist Ramble Launches: AI-Powered Voice-to-Tasks Transforms Rambling Speech into Organized To-Dos

Perhaps you don't require an AI smart ring to manage your tasks. Doist, the developer of the widely-used, cross-platform to-do application Todoist, is introducing a new AI-driven "voice-to-tasks" capability called Todoist Ramble. This feature enables you to articulate your tasks using everyday language. Living up to its name, Ramble can process your unstructured, wandering speech and convert it into neatly organized tasks. The application will also record additional details you mention, such as project deadlines, priority levels, estimated duration, and assigned individuals.
The concept addresses the common scenario where people think of tasks while busy, but find it inconvenient to pull out their phone to type a note or set a reminder. With Todoist Ramble, you still need to take out your phone, but typing is unnecessary. You simply tap the Ramble icon and begin speaking. The app updates in real-time with the task information, even accommodating edits and adjustments as you talk. For example, the company illustrates that you can say phrases like "Actually, make that Thursday" or "that's all" to guide the AI further during your speech.
Ramble is constructed on large language models (LLMs) as a component of a suite of AI features the company labels Todoist Assist, which operates on Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash Live model via Vertex AI for real-time speech comprehension. As the audio streams to the backend, the model transcribes your speech, identifies tasks, dates, and other mentioned details to generate your tasks. According to Doist, the audio is neither stored nor utilized for AI training, and the app holds SOC2 Type II certification.
This AI functionality mirrors what is emerging across various hardware AI devices, which transcribe speech to create notes, reminders, tasks, or insights. For instance, Amazon's Bee wearable employs AI to take notes and suggest to-dos, while other devices, like those from Plaud, can capture meeting notes and extract key points. Interest is also growing in AI-powered smart rings, such as the Stream ring from startup Sandbar or Pebble's forthcoming Index 01 ring. Both allow you to quickly press the ring (worn on the index finger) to add an item to your to-do list or make a note in a companion mobile app.
Prior to launch, Ramble underwent beta testing with all Todoist Experimental users, a group of about 150,000 active testers who try new features early. In the first three weeks of testing, approximately 76,000 testers completed around 290,000 Ramble sessions on desktop and mobile. The feature then moved into public beta testing in November. Doist reports that task creation success improved from about 40% in October to roughly 62% by December, and it stimulated upgrades. New users on the entry-level plan were upgrading at a rate approximately five times higher than before using Ramble.
Todoist Ramble is now available to all users on iOS, Android, desktop, and web platforms, supporting 38 languages. Users on the Beginner plan can access the feature with a limited number of sessions per month, while Pro and Business paid plans offer unlimited sessions. For convenient access, the feature can be used via a Home Screen or Lock Screen shortcut on iOS and through app shortcuts, widgets, and quick settings tiles on Android.
