xAI Sued Over Grok Chatbot's Alleged Role in Creating Child Sexual Abuse Material as New Plaintiff Joins Lawsuit

A woman referred to as Jane Doe 4 has joined a lawsuit originally brought by three Tennessee teenagers against Elon Musk’s xAI, concerning the alleged role of the company’s chatbot, Grok, in generating child sexual abuse material. As detailed in a report from The Washington Post, the woman claims her stepfather used Grok to alter a photo of her taken when she was 11 years old, producing over 7,000 explicit images of her. She also stated that her stepfather was discovered dead from suicide two days after law enforcement uncovered the images during a raid. “Limitless access to these tools is spreading so quickly,” the woman remarked. “It is taking everyday life and turning it into child sexual abuse.”
The teenagers who initiated the lawsuit accuse xAI (now part of SpaceX) of neglecting basic safety measures to prevent Grok from being used to create explicit images of real individuals, including minors. Earlier this year, millions of Grok-generated sexualized images flooded X, highlighting the scale of the issue. The plaintiffs are seeking class action status for their case.
