I spent a year building my first app in my spare time — finally launched BrainStorm AI

About a year ago I started building BrainStorm AI, my first solo app.

I work full-time and coding is just something I enjoy getting my head into after work. I’m completely self-taught, and this is the first app I’ve ever launched.

The idea came from a personal problem — I have a terrible memory and I struggle to take notes or stay focused during conversations and meetings. I’d often finish a call and realise I’d forgotten half the important things that were said. I wished there was a tool that could automatically capture everything and turn it into something I could actually use.

So I built it.

Over the next year I worked on it in my spare time using Flutter. Honestly, there wasn’t one single biggest challenge — the whole process was a challenge. Learning new things, fixing bugs, building features, and slowly improving the app bit by bit.

BrainStorm AI now lets you:

Make in-app voice calls

Automatically generate summaries, notes, action items, and tasks

Keep everything organised in one place without storing any voice data once it’s analysed

During development, the project was also accepted into Google for Startups, which was a really exciting milestone as a solo developer building a first product.

This week I finally launched the app on Android. Seeing something I built actually live and downloadable felt pretty surreal.

The goal is simple: help people capture ideas, conversations, and tasks automatically so they don’t have to rely on memory or scattered notes.

I'm also working on a second app related to one of my hobbies — rock climbing — which I’m hoping to launch later as well.
