Cognition, Maker of AI Software Engineer Devin, Raises $1B at $25B Valuation

Cognition, the company behind the autonomous AI coding agent named Devin, announced on Wednesday that it has raised over $1 billion at a pre-money valuation of $25 billion. This marks a massive jump from its $10.2 billion post-money valuation achieved just eight months ago in September, when it closed a $400 million funding round.
The latest round was led by Lux Capital and General Catalyst, with participation from existing investors such as Founders Fund and 8VC. New investors including Ribbit Capital, Atreides, and Layer Global also joined. This infusion represents a strong vote of confidence from top-tier venture capital firms that there remains room for independent AI software coding startups.
Last year, the prevailing sentiment was that model makers would dominate this hot market themselves. Indeed, offerings like Anthropic’s Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and potentially Google’s coding agent Jules—following its acqui-hire deal for Windsurf last year—have captured significant attention. However, Cognition, which acquired the remaining pieces of Windsurf last year, reports that it now counts major enterprises such as Mercedes-Benz, NASA, Goldman Sachs, and Santander as clients.
The company also states that it has reached $492 million in annualized revenue run-rate, with enterprise usage of Devin growing 50% month over month for the past six months.
