Anthropic Announces Custom AI Chip Initiative to Boost Claude Performance and Efficiency
By admin | Aug 05, 2026 | 1 min read
Anthropic is assembling a team to develop custom chips tailored for AI workloads, as reported by Business Insider. The company behind Claude says it intends to co-design hardware alongside its models to boost speed and efficiency. Just last month, The Information noted that Anthropic had been exploring Samsung as a possible manufacturing partner for these chips.
The move comes as demand for Claude continues to climb, with AI firms racing to lock down infrastructure capacity. Anthropic has already partnered with AWS, Google, Nvidia, and AMD to secure access to AI computing resources. Yet, to truly scale up and meet surging demand, relying solely on external suppliers appears insufficient.
Anthropic isn't the first in the AI space to pursue in-house chip development. In June, OpenAI introduced its Broadcom-built Jalapeño chip, engineered specifically for inference tasks. Google DeepMind has long leaned on Alphabet's TPU chips to drive its AI systems, while Meta has been advancing its own MTIA accelerators for similar purposes.
According to a job posting, Anthropic is now seeking engineers with chip design expertise to join its "custom silicon team." The company had not responded to requests for comment at the time of writing.
