Apple Announces AI-Powered 'Reframe' Feature for Photos App at WWDC 2026

At WWDC 2026 on Monday, Apple unveiled several new AI features for its Photos app, powered by Apple Intelligence. One standout addition is a spatial "Reframe" tool that uses artificial intelligence to adjust the composition of images. For example, if you accidentally captured a sign hovering above someone's head, missed the perfect symmetry by a small step to the right, or were off by a fraction of a second in making eye contact with a subject, this tool can help correct those issues. Users can touch and drag photos to shift the perspective, as if they had repositioned the camera in the original scene. The effect can be previewed in real-time. As you adjust the photo, a blur appears around the edges of the original image, which Apple's generative models later fill in seamlessly.

This feature generates new content only where the perspective has been altered, ensuring the reframed image remains consistent with the original scene. An "Extend" tool is also available, allowing users to expand images to give subjects more breathing room or to straighten a crooked horizon without cropping out important details. You can pinch to zoom out or adjust the crop to add more to the scene. Additionally, the popular "Cleanup" tool has received an upgrade, enabling users to remove distractions with higher quality and more realistic infill, thanks to generative AI. Simply tap, brush, or circle the unwanted elements, and the tool handles the rest.
