Apple Launches Major Siri Overhaul at WWDC 2026, Unveiling iOS 27 & Apple Intelligence Upgrades in Tim Cook’s Final Keynote

Apple's WWDC 2026 officially launched this morning at 10 a.m. PT from Apple Park, kicking off a week filled with anticipated announcements covering Siri, iOS 27, Apple Intelligence, and more, alongside developer sessions and product demonstrations. This year's event stands out for two major reasons. First, it marks CEO Tim Cook's final appearance with the company, as he announced he will hand over leadership to Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus on September 1. Second, the event is expected to showcase Apple's ambitious push to revitalize Siri and its overall AI capabilities, following a period of outsourcing some work to Google and delaying certain releases. Are these efforts paying off? Keep checking this page and our ongoing coverage to find out.

As anticipated, Apple made a strong case for an upgraded experience with its long-standing Siri assistant, acknowledging that user expectations have risen significantly in the age of AI. With Google Gemini powering the backend, Apple claims the new Siri updates will make the assistant more capable, conversational, and compatible with visual intelligence features. Additionally, Siri will now have its own standalone app while continuing to work across existing applications. Before rolling out these enhancements, Apple emphasized its commitment to a privacy-first approach to AI. "We believe privacy in AI is non-negotiable," said Apple Senior Vice President Craig Federighi during the stream. He went further, stating that "data is only used to execute your request, and outside experts can continue to verify this promise at any time."

If you were among those who weren't thrilled with last year's Liquid Glass design updates, you weren't alone. While Apple isn't switching to a completely new aesthetic, users will now have the option to dial back certain elements—or, conversely, amplify them if you're enjoying the look. For those who criticized the app icon redesigns following Spotify's disco ball update, Apple demonstrated a new, layered approach to Liquid Glass within its apps.

Claiming that its upcoming update will be "available to more users than any iOS release ever," Apple revealed that all devices from the iPhone 11 onward will be eligible for the new software. This update brings a host of performance improvements across several of its operating system releases this year. Apple says new photos will appear 70 percent faster, AirDrop transfers will be 80 percent quicker, and CPU schedulers have been enhanced to improve multitasking.
