ChatGPT Launches Apple Messages Plugin: Analyze, Sort, and Edit Your iMessage Conversations with OpenAI

If you’ve ever wished you could hand over all your digital conversations to OpenAI, here’s some good news: the AI lab just rolled out an Apple Messages plugin for ChatGPT, letting interested users link their Messages inbox directly to the chatbot. According to OpenAI, the perks are plentiful. With this plugin, you can sort through, analyze, or tweak your messages straight from ChatGPT. It’s also compatible with Codex and ChatGPT Work, so it works for professional use, not just personal ones. A short ad for the new plugin shows a user asking the chatbot to come up with follow-up replies to contacts based on messages received the day before. Beyond that, you can have ChatGPT delete messages, draft and send replies on your behalf, or dig up details buried deep in your chat history. As with most AI-related tools, this feature brings up some privacy concerns. OpenAI shared with Bloomberg that the plugin runs locally on your device and “doesn’t create an index of all someone’s messages.” Still, the exact implications of that aren’t fully spelled out. When it comes to sending messages, OpenAI advises users to keep a close watch on what ChatGPT is doing and suggests avoiding the persistent approval setting, warning that enabling it “removes your final chance to review a message before ChatGPT sends it as you,” the company notes.
