Deezer isn't backing down from its mission to keep AI-generated music out of listeners' ears. On Tuesday, the streaming service revealed it's developing a new toggle that will allow users to screen out AI-created music uploaded to the platform. The tool is slated to roll out before the year is over.

Once the toggle is switched on, according to Deezer, AI-generated tracks, albums, and associated artists will no longer appear in your search results. "We've seen clear user demand for the ability to filter out AI-generated music, and we are now giving everyone the option to remove this content completely from their streaming experience on Deezer, and focus only on human creators and creations, if they wish," said CEO Alexis Lanternier in a statement. He noted that the surge of AI music flooding the platform played a major role in motivating these toggle-based features.

The company pointed to a survey conducted last year, which found that roughly 45% of Deezer subscribers were looking for a way to strip AI music from their feeds. Deezer introduced AI-detection technology last year and has been publishing data on upload volumes ever since. Back then, AI-generated tracks made up 10% of daily uploads. By July, the company reported that over 50% of daily uploads—averaging 90,000 tracks per day—were AI-generated.

Other music streaming platforms have established their own approaches to AI music. Bandcamp has issued a full ban on AI tracks, while Tidal removed monetization opportunities for those uploading AI music. Spotify has adopted a lighter approach, simply tagging AI tracks and artists more visibly on its platform. In August, Variety reported that Apple Music intended to label AI tracks by the end of the year. Beyond platform-level tagging, listeners are also seeking out independent tracking systems to spot AI music.
