Google Photos Launches "Video Remix" AI Tool Powered by Gemini Omni to Edit Videos in Seconds

Google Photos has introduced a new feature called “Video Remix,” which can edit and transform video clips in a matter of seconds, as announced on Wednesday. This tool is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s latest model designed to “create anything from any input.”

This launch represents Google’s latest effort to integrate more generative AI capabilities into its consumer applications, as it vies for dominance against rivals like Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe. By embedding AI-driven video editing directly into Google Photos, the company simplifies the process for users to polish clips with just a few taps, eliminating the need for specialized software and encouraging deeper engagement with Google’s ecosystem. The Video Remix tool is accessible from the “Create” tab within Google Photos, enabling actions such as applying cinematic relighting to brighten a dark scene, replacing a plain background with an alternative, or adding artistic effects like watercolor, raw sketchbook, or oil painting styles. For instance, you could modify a video to look as though it was filmed in a greenhouse, enhance it with a morning glow, or give it a watercolor painting effect.

“Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professional skills or hours of editing,” Google stated in a blog post. “Now, with Video Remix in Google Photos, you can transform ordinary videos into share-worthy moments in just a few taps.”

The Video Remix feature begins rolling out today to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the United States, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey. This update is the latest in a series of AI-powered enhancements to Google Photos. Recently, the app introduced new touch-up tools that let users apply subtle adjustments and fixes, such as removing blemishes, refining skin texture, brightening eyes, and whitening teeth. Additionally, Google announced an AI-powered feature that converts photos of your clothes into a digital closet, allowing you to generate new outfit ideas and virtually try on ensembles.
