Gemini AI Assistant Expands to 7 New Asia-Pacific Markets in Chrome

Google revealed on Monday that its Gemini in Chrome feature is now accessible in seven additional markets: Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. The rollout includes both desktop and iOS platforms across all these nations, with the exception of Japan.

The company has been progressively embedding AI and Gemini capabilities into Chrome over the past year, initially through a floating window interface. Earlier this year, Google introduced a sidebar-based assistant designed to help users find answers across open tabs. This tool also leverages Gemini's Personal Intelligence feature, allowing it to connect with services like Gmail and Google Photos to provide personalized responses.

Through this Chrome feature, users can schedule appointments using Calendar, look up location details with Maps, and compose and send emails directly via Gmail. Additionally, it enables users to modify images on the web using Nano Banana 2 directly within the sidebar.

Gemini in Chrome first became available to users in the United States following its launch in January. Its availability was then extended to India, Canada, and New Zealand in March. This latest expansion significantly increases the number of countries where the feature can be accessed.

However, Google's agentic feature—which can autonomously control the browser window to perform tasks on the user's behalf—remains in testing. Currently, it is only offered to subscribers of the AI Pro and AI Ultra paid plans in the United States.
