Google AI Mode Adds Flight Price Tracking, Hotel Booking, and Points-Based Trip Planning

Google has unveiled new capabilities for AI Mode, its conversational search tool, that make it easier for users to plan and book travel. The company made the announcement on Thursday, introducing features that allow users to track flight prices, reserve hotels, and view the cost of flights and accommodations in points or miles. This move signals an effort to transform AI Mode into a kind of AI travel agent, shifting from merely offering information to actively managing parts of the trip-planning and booking experience.

With these updates, users can describe their desired travel dates and destinations, and AI Mode will present the best available flight options, pulling real-time prices from over 300 airlines and travel sites. If they’re prepared to book, they can build their itinerary directly within AI Mode. For those who prefer to wait for a better deal, they can simply say something like “track these flight prices for me.”

When price changes occur for the specified destination and dates, users will receive an email notification. This flight price tracking feature is now accessible in more than 180 countries. On the hotel front, users can discover and book accommodations through a conversation with AI Mode. By sharing details about their trip and preferences, they’ll get a list of options complete with reviews and key considerations. Once they’ve chosen a hotel, they can ask AI Mode to assist with the booking process. To finalize, they’ll need to select the “Continue on Google” option, which appears alongside Google’s integrated partners, including hotel chains and travel sites. From there, they can pick their room, review details like cancellation policies, and complete the transaction using Google Pay. The company notes that the hotel or booking platform will manage the reservation and any related customer service.

Hotel booking in AI Mode is beginning to roll out in the U.S. in English, with availability expanding over the coming weeks. Initial partners include Booking.com, Choice Hotels International, Expedia, Hilton, Hotels.com, IHG Hotels & Resorts, Marriott International, Priceline, Trip.com, and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Additionally, Google now enables AI Mode to show the cost of flights and hotels in points or miles. For example, users can ask, “I want to travel from Atlanta to Miami using my AA miles. Help me find some options for nonstop flights departing Oct 9 and returning on Oct 12,” and AI Mode will display the miles required for matching flights. This update is available globally.
