Meta launches Mac app with system-wide AI dictation and screen-aware answers

Meta has rolled out a new Mac application for its AI assistant, Meta AI, which introduces a system-wide dictation feature. This functionality allows users to dictate text across any application, similar to existing tools like Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, and Monologue. Additionally, the app can analyze the current screen content and provide context-aware answers using its Muse Spark model.

This launch follows Google's recent update to its Gemini app for Mac, which also added a system-wide dictation capability last month. The new Mac app is part of a broader update to Meta AI aimed at business users. Meta announced that merchants can now link their Instagram and Facebook accounts, Meta ad campaigns, and Google Workspace tools—including Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and Slides—to Meta AI. By asking the AI assistant questions, users can gain insights into campaign performance and audience engagement metrics, helping them identify which posts have resonated most effectively.

The integration also extends to competitive intelligence, drawing on publicly available data to offer users a view of how their competitors are performing. Beyond analytics, Meta AI can assist with creating proposal decks, drafting documents, and building spreadsheets when connected to business tools.

Meta has been steadily expanding its AI offerings for businesses, particularly around automated customer support and handling inquiries across platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram. During the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the significant opportunity in selling AI agents to businesses, enabling them to automate tasks and streamline operations on their behalf.
